Donetsk os one of the largest city in Ukraine. It is the administrative center of Donetsk region, industrial and scientific center of Ukraine.
The reason of the city's foundation was the building of metallurgical plant in 1869. At first it was the village, named Yuzivka.
In 1924 Yuzivka was renamed to Stalino, and in 1961 Stalino was renamed to Donetsk. The city got it's name from the river Seversky Donets.
In 1970 UNESCO recognized Donetsk as the best industrial city in the world.

Donetsk was voted to host Euro 2012 football matches. Especially for the championship a new stadium "Donbas-Arena" was built in the city.

In the Soviet Union period Donetsk was called "the city of roses", because more than two million bushes of these wonderful flowers grew in Donetsk.
